Why take files hostage when you can take victim's private lives instead?

A new malware strain dwoman-994744_640.jpgubbed "Delilah" is being sprung on unsuspecting victims visiting "popular adult and gaming sites."

The goal of this malware, which is currently being classified as a "trojan," is to gather data (including webcam video) on victims, their families, and their employers that can later being used for the purposes of extortion and manipulation. More detail at this article at ComputerWorld:

It's being described as "the first insider threat trojan," as it allows malicious parties to identify and "recruit" insiders at targeted organizations and companies who can then be used to do the bidding of those malicious parties.

The value of a compromised company and its exploitable data to malicious actors is multitudinous and, in total, may exceed the value of the company itself, as Brian Krebs recently noted:

Even when a company's employees aren't sitting at their desks during regular business hours they remain potential targets for the bad guys, who can now exploit the relative lack of good computer security practices in the home to create a human backdoor into otherwise secure businesses and organizations.

Looking at the above, security awareness training is just as important at the house as it is at the office. KnowBe4 has a Home Internet Security Course for employees of our customers that want to keep their family safe on the internet. It's getting very important to practice safe internet in both the house and the office.
