As the number of reported ransomware attacks increases, new data provides a fresh look at how ready organizations are for ransomware attacks.
Ransomware gets a lot of these days, and for good reason. According to Hornetsecurity’s Ransomware Attack Survey 2023, the percentage of organizations reporting they’ve experienced an attack jumped this year ten-fold from just 2% of organizations last year to 20% this year!
This increase in attacks has resulted in the majority of organizations being concerned about these attacks and the negative impact they can have on operations. And this concern has manifested itself in organizations being far more prepared than ever before. According to the survey data:
- 90% of organizations have a disaster recovery plan in place for ransomware attacks
- 90% secure their backups from improper access during attacks
- 80% of ransomware victim organizations say they were able to recover from backups
But what is still concerning is that 90% of organizations cited their endpoint protection solution as the solution to combat ransomware. Because cybercriminals test their wares against security solutions, relying on a single solution isn’t a wise choice. Preventing ransomware from being installed on an endpoint takes a layered approach that includes preventative controls such as email scanning, DNS protection and security awareness training to minimize the risk that a malicious file will ever be seen by endpoint protection.
