New data exposes the reality of ransomware attacks today, including their frequency, impact, ransom payment – and the involvement of human error.
It’s readily evident that ransomware is only growing as a threat.
But a new infographic from ERP Cybersecurity vendor Onapsis covering the state of ransomware provides some context on just how critical the threat is right now:
- 83% of organizations have experienced at least one ransomware attack in the last year, with 46% of respondents experiencing four or more, and 14% indicating they experienced 10 or more
- 61% of organizations experienced at least 24 hours of downtime following a ransomware attack
- 83% worked with a ransomware broker to deal with the attackers
- 55% paid the ransom in some or all of the attacks experienced
The most shocking stat is that in 81% of attacks, human error was involved in the successful execution of the ransomware. This tells you where the biggest problem is for organizations like yours – and what to do about it.
Involving the user in your cyber defenses is critical now, as it’s the only way to eliminate that 81% - and experiencing repeat attacks. Through continual new-school security awareness training, organizations can educate their employees to spot social engineering and phishing attacks which are predominantly used as the initial attack vector in ransomware attacks.
