I don't have to say it, do I?

IranAttackSo today, news broke that Iran has sent dozens, if not more than 100 drones to Israel in a direct attack. Discussion on Twitter also claim that ballistic missiles will be sent.

And of course, I don't have to tell you that this is the most prominent opportunity for all kinds of social engineering attacks.

Through social media. Through email. Through text on people's phones. This is the ultimate clickbait. People are making the point that this is possibly the start of World War 3. It's a thing that will make anyone scared. And want to know the latest news— which may or may not be completely fabricated.

This is the time where you have to literally, with each and every email, with each and every text, with each and every posting on social media about this topic, ask yourself if this real. Is this propaganda? Is this a deep fake? Is somebody trying to make me take an action?

This goes into all kinds of potential attack vectors like fundraising, or send support. Occasions like this is when bad actors pull out all the stops. You actually have a hot war breaking out, so everyone is concerned. But this is also the time where everyone needs to truly step up their alertness and making sure that they don't fall for the inevitable social engineering attacks, influence campaigns, and let's not even start about the political firestorm about this in an election year.

Sigh.
