The data of 250,000 users of Hookers.nl, a forum where experiences with prostitutes and escorts are exchanged, have been stolen and offered for sale on the internet. It concerns e-mail addresses, usernames, IP-addresses and hashed passwords, reports the NOS Dutch national TV channel.

The attacker was able to capture the data through a vulnerability in the vBulletin forum software. A security update for this vulnerability has been available since September 26. An anonymous source has been offering the data for sale on the dark web.

Earlier, the database of the security company Comodo was stolen through the same vulnerability. The security company acknowledged that it had not installed the security update in time.

The data viewed by the NOS shows that many forum users use an email address from which their real name can be derived. In response to the data breach, dozens of users on Hookers.nl have asked to close their account.

"We Are Not Happy"

Hookers.nl, which has reported the data breach to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, has also posted a message about the data breach on its own forum: "Last week our external software supplier, vBulletin, reported that a software error was detected in their access software vBulletin has released a software patch that we implemented after testing to close the leak, nevertheless a data breach has occurred and the e-mail addresses have been stolen from the Hookers.nl database with all users. "
