Kevin Mitnick sent me an article that illustrates why it is needed to train all employees not to fall for hacker tricks: "Friday, April 26, 2013 - WENATCHEE — Hackers stole more than $1 million from an electronic bank account held by Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth, leading to a multi-state criminal investigation that could yield federal charges.
On Monday morning, Chelan County Treasurer David Griffiths’ office noticed three unauthorized transaction files that had been logged the previous Friday. The files moved an estimated $1.03 million out of the public hospital district’s ACH account to 96 different bank accounts, most of them in the Midwest and East Coast. Money Mules were waiting for the cash and took most of it out immediately. Normally the money gets sent straight to Eastern Europe where these mafias are based.
Keep in mind that Trend-Micro recently reported that 91% of successful hacks start with a spear-phishing attack!
Next-generation Security Awareness Training that keeps employees on their toes all year long is a must these days.
