[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Defcon Cracking Tools"]Defcon Cracking Tools[/caption] Some pretty interesting cracking tools were released this week at Defcon in Vegas. Moxie Marlinspike, one of the world's top encryption experts, unveiled the new combo CloudCracker.com / ChapCracker on Saturday. He said he developed the service by taking advantage of a vulnerability he discovered in a widely used virtual private network technology known as point-to-point tunneling protocol. The tools easily crack passwords in wireless and virtual private networks that use a popular encryption protocol based on an algorithm from Microsoft called MS-CHAPv2, news that will no doubt worry many a network administrator. Yunsun Wee, director of Microsoft Trustworthy Computing, provided this statement: "We are actively investigating the issue and will take the necessary steps to help protect customers."
