New Cyberweapon Scam Of The Week: LinkedIn Phishing Attack

Since LinkedIn had their IPO, they have been in the news a lot more,

even if only to compare them with the recent Facebook IPO Debacle.

But the better known you are, the bigger target you are! LinkedIn

lately is more and more used in phishing campaigns. Most of these are

just attempts to redirect you to online pharmacy websites, but it

could just as well be a phishing attack to put a keylogger on your

system. Below are two screenshots, can you see which is fake and

which one is real? This one is good to send to all employees. (Hat

Tip to Avira). See the screens at the KnowBe4 blog:

Windows 8's Built-in AV To Be Security Of Last Resort

Microsoft's Windows 8 will activate its built-in antivirus software

only if it senses that the PC is not protected by another security

program, says McAfee. The new operating system, which last week reached

its final public milestone, includes security software, dubbed "Windows

Defender," that combines characteristics of both that anti-spyware

program of the same name and the free Security Essentials, the antivirus

program that until now has been offered as a separate download. Story

Apple Releases Guide To iOS Security

Techcrunch wrote: "Apple has introduced a guide to iOS security, which

was posted to Apple.com sometime in late May, but is just now being

noticed outside the Apple developer community. The publication is notable

because it’s the first time Apple has published a comprehensive guide

intended for an I.T. audience. The new guide includes four sections

dedicated to topics like system architecture, encryption and data

protection, network security, and device access." Here is their blog post:

Over-55s Pick Passwords Twice As Secure As Teenagers

People over the age of 55 pick passwords double the strength of those

chosen by people under 25 years old. That's according to the largest ever

study of password security, which also found that most of us choose

passwords that are less secure than security experts recommend.

Joseph Bonneau, a computer scientist at the University of Cambridge,

analyzed the passwords of nearly 70 million Yahoo! users. The data had

been protected using a security technique called hashing, which ensured

he did not have access to the individual accounts. He calculated the

password strengths for different demographic groups and compared the

results. It is REALLY important you choose strong passwords, whatever

your age is! More at the NewScientist website:
