We have seen crooked Walmart gift card offers before, but now and then I run across one that's craftier than earlier versions. And as usual, you do not get the gift card, but a high dose of heartache instead. Currently, on several social media sites the scam tells you that you have been selected to receive a free (yeah sure) $1,000 Walmart card.
The only thing you need to do is click on this link and enter the “FREE” code. Oh, they throw in some artificial scarcity as "only 116 cards available" so act fast. Once the link is clicked, you are taken to a site where you need to enter the code. But wait, there's more, now you need to answer something else, with ultimately the bonus: your cell phone number! Once you enter that, the scammers are off to the races with your money, as the fine print states: "Cost $13,20 every 2days + $13.20 join. 25c per message sent. Carriage fees may apply. Celeb VIP subscription content for your phone: 1x daily joke, funny video, games, celebrity news & ringtone.” Cha-ching! Full post at Hoax Slayer
