Cybercrime: M86 Security Creates Security Suite for SMBs

Internet threat management company M86 Security recently announced a brand-new small business security suite that promises to help small businesses get a workable handle on their security situations. It includes Web and e-mail security, including content management and data loss protection, as part of a compact package designed to fit SMBs' pocketbooks as well as their technical needs. The product's name is M86 SMB Security Suite, and it includes M86's MailMarshal Secure Email Gateway, M86 WebMarshal, M86 Filter List, the M86 Marshal Reporting Console, and a choice of anti-virus modules from either Norman or Sophos, all in a single bundle.

M86 SMB Security Suite targets organizations with up to 500 users. It is designed to provide SMBs the same kind of protection normally available only to enterprise-class customers. M86 VP for Product Management, Werner Thalmeier, is quoted in a company press release on this product as follows:

"Cybercrime, regulatory compliance and DLP [data loss protection] are not just Fortune 500 concerns. Unlike many products that try to address these concerns, the M86 Security Suite is not a 'cut-down' or 'lite' version of existing products. Customers will benefit from the same full [set of] features available to enterprise customers, making it an extremely compelling option for those organizations seeking to save money without compromising security or functionality."

The entire M86 Security Suite may be installed on a single server, or distributed as needed, and includes a comprehensive reporting facility. It is amenable to virtualization, and may be deployed in a variety of different configurations specifically aimed at small- to medium-sized businesses. The built-in security components provide advanced and comprehensive protection against Web and e-mail based threats, and include features to manage users, control and filter content, and manage security policy for the entire business. The suite even includes quota management and content inspection capabilities that permit assigning read-only access to social networking sites, for example, while blocking access to game sites completely.

M86 will offer the M86 Small Business Suite through its network of partners starting March 22, 2011. It is offered on an annual subscription license basis, and multi-year subscriptions are eligible for discounts. For more information, please visit the M86 Website.
