Compliance Plus Library Reaches 800 Pieces of Content

The team and I were just looking at our first few months where we had just over 20,000 customer completions in June of 2021. We have since had millions of users complete our content and the library has grown from 115 pieces of content at launch to over 800 pieces of content. We’ve had the largest library of security awareness training (SAT) for years, and we are approaching having one of the largest libraries in the compliance space as well.

Topics covered in this compliance offering include: business ethics, environmental, social and governance (ESG), employment law, workplace safety, data privacy & data protection, discrimination & harassment, diversity & inclusion, and even some professional development. Over 500 pieces of content in this library are self-paced, e-learning training modules that utilize applied learning science methods.

This means we provide short videos (or occasionally text-only pages for some shorter topics) interspersed with engaging knowledge checks, scenarios and interactives. At the end of each training, the learner takes a quiz to demonstrate mastery of the topics covered. We also have 300 supplemental materials that include: high-production-value videos, documents/job aides, posters (including digital assets), a quarterly compliance newsletter, and our first game!

Our SAT library contains over 40 games, and they continue to be some of our most used pieces of content on the platform. Games with scenarios (case studies) and fun interactive elements can make somewhat intimidating topics more engaging for your employees. One of the first and the all-time most successful games in the SAT library was Spot the Phish (StP) by the Popcorn Training (a KnowBe4 company) team in South Africa. It had over 5 million completions and was retired a couple of years ago and replaced with some other highly engaging spinoffs in the “StP franchise” such as: Spot the Phish Game: Reloaded, Spot the Phish Game: Foundational, and Spot the Phish Game: Bad Links Edition.

That same team brings you the first of what will be many games in the compliance library: The Pursuit of Privacy Game. This new game is great for the connected world we all work in and your learners get to test their knowledge of regional data privacy laws at different destinations. If you have ideas for games, hop in the KnowBe4 Community and suggest them; we would love your ideas to add to the additional compliance games we already have planned for this year.

We also apply what people love about our SAT library to the Compliance Plus offering: short, concise content that is built modularly and integrated with your cybersecurity training throughout the year. We hear from customers that it’s less disruptive to use one system for training both security and compliance topics throughout the year rather than just once during “compliance training time.” One example is our very popular sexual harassment training; in the State of California, managers are required to do 2 hours of this particular training. We were able to create four 30-minute modules that can be rolled out quarterly to meet requirements rather than one large 2-hour training.

We also see much higher on-time completion rates using this method of deploying modular training more frequently (monthly or quarterly). We here at KnowBe4 do monthly training ourselves, and we use our system to deploy both Compliance training and SAT concurrently. Back in October of 2024, KnowBe4’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Ani Banerjee, and KnowBe4’s Chief Legal Officer, Alicia Tawil, talked about this approach on a webcast, explaining how collaboration between Legal and HR made a difference in engagement and made reporting of incidents more consistent and timely throughout the year.

We didn’t always have this cadence of training, and I remember that period of time when the "annual compliance push” was disruptive and challenging. Now everyone knows to just log in to do their training, and we have built muscle memory. This approach has really shown that not only can it be less disruptive to the core business by training 10 minutes per month or 30-40 minutes per quarter, but it’s also more effective.

The modular approach also allows you to be more customized and build a strategic training plan. For example, you can choose to include our Avoiding Bribery in the Workplace 10-minute training module in the first quarter, Perspectives with Quiz: Bribery and Corruption in the second quarter, doing other training in the third quarter, and do something around the holidays in the fourth quarter, using our 8-minute, mobile-first module on Gifts, Entertainment and Bribery: An Overview.

Or you can include all of those modules in one quarter focused on bribery OR pick from 29 other pieces of content to include in your training campaigns. Also, our Content Manager features allow you to incorporate links to policy and procedural documents, hide certain optional pages that could contain less relevant information, remind your learners of how to report incidents, and provide a unique experience for your learners with ease.

As you can tell, a lot has changed since I recorded the first demo of Compliance Plus in 2021. Luckily my colleague Kala Cadwell, KnowBe4’s courseware services director, recently posted a new demo that takes you through all of the new updates and features.
